Google rolled out Panda Update #24 on 22.1.2013.Learn the preventive and rescue techniques.
Since January 2012 there has been Panda Updates from Google every month except May and October. In total there have been 15 updates in last 1 year and the last Panda update rolled out on 22 January 2013 that impacted 1.2% of Search Queries.
So probably you may have noticed some big fluctuations in ranking for some keywords in past few months and already planning how to escape from Panda bite.
Before you plan, you need to know what exactly Panda Update is and then plan your strategy accordingly.
There was a time when Content was written not for users but for Search Engines. The purpose of the content was not to provide information to the users but to stuff the keywords and make it appealing to Google. The game did not last long as Google rolled out Panda Update targeting the pages with poor or low quality content.
Since then there has been as many as 24 updates. So if any lucky one escaped in past may have been identified now and hence penalized.
So if you have noticed any fluctuation in ranking for your website, firstly you should think about the content. Please be assured that the target page has enough contents providing useful information to the user. If you have any doubt in that change the content immediately. Limit the use of “Exact” Keywords and try to use variations. Best is to keep the density within 1.5%. Again, think of users and what information the content is passing.
Also, you need to be absolutely confident that the content used in your site is 100% unique and there are no plagiarism issues. You can use online tools like www.copyscape.com to check duplicate content.
On limiting Keyword density by reducing overstuffing and writing user friendly content your site can escape from vulture eyes of Google Panda.
Avoid auto generated content and don’t clutter your website with too many ads. In other words don’t allow ads to dominate the content and rule the page.
Incase your site has already been hit by Panda Update, you need to perform required changes as mentioned above and then again submit the URL through Google Webmaster tool for reconsideration.
But prevention is always better than cure. So start identifying the pages which has irrelevant or very less content, Content Duplication and Content for Search Engines and not for users. Take appropriate measures in right time so that you don’t need to wait for the next update and then bring the required changes after being hit by Panda.
To sum up:
- Create user friendly content
- Write Content for Users and not for Search Engine
- Avoid Auto Generated Content
- Avoid displaying excessive ads
- Check for Content Duplication and remove if any
- Dont forcefully insert Keywords in content
